VISTA: Rod Run attendance surges
Number of participants and visitors up nearly 50 percent from last year

 VISTA ---- Gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles may be declining in popularity, but judging by the number of visitors at Vista Rod Run, fuel-sucking hot rods, especially supercharged, dual-carburetor models, are apparently still very much in vogue.

Nearly 300 vehicles were registered for Sunday's show in the city's Townsite district near downtown, up from just under 200 last year. Attendance was also up significantly.

Ken and Martha Kaya of Oceanside had their royal blue Chevrolet-powered '32 Ford roadster on display near the Avo Playhouse. The couple frequently participates in car shows throughout Southern California, and Ken Kaya said it seemed like attendance at this year's Vista Rod Run doubled from last year.

"This show just keeps growing and growing, and I know there are almost a hundred more cars here today than there was last year," he said. "There must be twice as many people here today than there was last year ---- at least twice."

The Vista Village Business Association announces the 19th Annual Vista Rod Run was held on Sunday, August 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Historic Downtown district. If you missed it enjoy some of the photos here. Make sure you get on our mailing list to stay informed to be a Vista Rod Run Exhibitor, Vendor or Attendee. This year a portion of the 2008 proceeds will benefit the San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation.

The Rod Run is one of the largest car shows in the San Diego area as well as one of Vista ’s biggest community events. Car lovers will be drooling over more than 300 of the finest hot rods around. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Upholstery, Best Paint, Best Graphics, Mayor’s Choice, People’s Choice, Longest Distance, Club Participation, Best Woodie, Best Custom Motorcycle and others.

This year’s sponsors include the City of Vista , The Transmission Source, Advanced Collision Repair & Tow Inc., Certified Transmission, Chipotle, SandL Graphics, Toyota of Escondido, Kenny's Kar Klinic, Saturn of West 78, Krikorian Theater and West Escondido Automotive & Transmission. Music from PRI and FastLane will be provided on a stage by the fountain in the corner of Main Street and Michigan Avenue .

Visitors come from Carlsbad (Aviara, La Costa), Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia, Olivenhain), Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Jolla, La Mesa, Lemon, Grove, Mira Mesa, Murrieta, National City, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach, and Vista.
